Survey Points Out Rise in “Fitting Room Rage”

Fiting Room Rage

According to a new and probably very obvious survey, many women are suffering from “fitting room rage,” wherein they try on clothing in stores’ fitting rooms, and leave frustrated and cranky. Call me crazy, but this does not surprise me.

A report done by isme.com, which not-so-coincidentally sells clothing online, states that 48% of survey respondents felt frustration in fitting rooms, and 58% felt disappointment. 75% of respondents said they avoided trying clothes on altogether (not surprising, since the survey was conducted by an online clothing retailer).

Now, this doesn’t surprise me one bit. All my life, I’ve sort of hated trying on clothes. It seems no matter what, clothing’s numbered sizes are completely arbitrary for women (and don’t even get me started on the “small, medium, large” fiasco), and inevitably, it seems like you always need the number in the middle.

Adding to the anxiety of fitting rooms is that they are often small, with terrible lighting and no room to back up to see an outfit farther than 1.5-ft away, and is it just me, or are they roughly 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the store? There have been studies for heat-caused rage in cities during summertime, so it would stand to make sense that hotter fitting rooms would also induce discontentment when trying on clothes.

Have you ever suffered from “fitting room rage”?
