On more than one occasion during our relationship, my wife has woken up upset at me because I was in one of her dreams doing something bad like cheating on her or acting like a jerk. Sometimes this anger lasts hours. Plus it happens about once per month. I have only had one dream like that about her. Naturally, I was curious about why this happens and if it happened to other people. And it does happen to a lot of other people.
It Happens... A Lot!
I took to Reddit to find some solace and I found a thread that had many comments on this topic.
One member comments, “Once my ex girlfriend had a dream about me holding hands with her friend and kissing her. She yelled at me for doing it in her dream and then didn't talk to me for three days.”
Someone retorts, “I had the opposite. My girlfriend had a dream that I hugged her and told her she was my best friend. Then when she woke up she was mad at me when she found out it was a dream and not real life.”
“sometimes my mrs wakes up in the morning cross at me because I cheated on her in her dreams...”
“Man, why is Dream Me always an asshole? I swear every time she has a dream with me in it I'm being an incredible douche.”
Some more quotes from WeddingBee.com:
“Sometimes Mrs. Bee will dream about me... and in the dream, I'll do something bad (like cheat). When she wakes up from a dream like this, she is always mad at me! Partly it's because it feels so real... but also, I think the thought is that I must've done something bad for her to dream that I would cheat on her!”

Why?
So we have established that it happens. But why? Insecurity? Doubts?
Author Badi Purwa shares, “Dreams about cheating, either being cheated on or cheating yourself, are some of the most commonly reported, and most troubling, dreams there are. Many people take these dreams as prophecies, and accuse their spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend of cheating in real life. While these kinds of dreams are sometimes valid, most times they are not.”
Purwa adds, “In most cases, however, a dream about a cheating boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse is not about the spouse at all. Rather, the dream is most likely caused by insecurity, anxiety or guilt on the part of the dreamer.”
