What worries baby boomers about growing older? While some might think boomers (ages 47 – 65) fret about fading looks or dwindling sex appeal, a recent poll conducted by The Associated Press and LifeGoesStrong.com reveals that health, not appearance, is the top concern.

"The findings that midlifers who are worried about aging are focused more on their health over physical looks may seem surprising to some -- but then when you see stunning boomer role models like Susan Sarandon and Helen Mirren, it all makes sense," entertainment writer Cindy Pearlman said in a release. "Even in a town like Hollywood, where you'd expect nips and tucks everywhere you turn, many celebrities are saying that the secret to looking great at any age is accepting the inevitable changes that the years bring, while staying in shape and embracing your own sense of style."

According to the majority of baby boomers, the worst thing about growing older is the loss of health and physical stamina. Of the boomers surveyed, 28% said health issues were their biggest concern, while 26% fret about losing strength.

Because of these health concerns, many midlifers are making an honest effort to exercise and eat right. Nine in ten boomers reportedly changed their diet as they grew older, while 57% have tried new exercise regimens. Unfortunately, these changes are desperately needed as 36% of boomers are classified as obese and another 36% are classified as overweight.

Despite the reported focus on health and physical fitness, baby boomers do have a little bit of vanity. 31% of all boomers, including 55% of midlife women, regularly dye their hair with the majority visiting the salon to cover up stubborn grays.
