The dentist's office is typically the last place a person wants to go, but a Japanese trend has one dental salon in Tokyo cashing in on crooked teeth. Although girls aren't wanted theirs straightened; they actually want them longer, more crooked, and fang-like!
This trait is called "yaeba" which means "double tooth" in Japanese. It occurs naturally when two molars crowd the canines, pushing them forward. Some Japanese celebrities flaunt this feature, influencing young girls to have the cosmetic procedure.
Dr. Yoko Kashiyama and her staff at the Plaisir Dental Salon in Ginza district use non-permanent adhesive to glue custom-made artificial teeth onto the natural canines to lengthen them and make them stand out. This is the most popular procedure the salon performs.
The "yaeba" look is considered cute in a culture that thinks little imperfections make a pretty girl more approachable. Some say it gives them a feline look which makes them even more attractive.
