I've heard of pregnant mothers playing music to benefit the babies in their bellies, but I didn't know music helped chickens lay bigger, better eggs. The Chung Hing Musical Farm in Hong Kong specializes in "Music Eggs", by playing all types of tunes from the very first day the chicks hatch.
Farmer Fong Chi-hung has created an age-specific soundtrack, where baby chicks listen to soft love songs and older ones get disco, before they are transitioned into rock and pop songs. Farmer Fong says the constant rhythms and melodies help relax the chickens so they're happier and lay more, higher-quality eggs.
As seen in the photos above, the music eggs are marked with special treble clef stickers. When cracked and cooked, the music eggs' yolks look bigger and darker in color.
However, the music eggs are much pricier, at nearly nine times the cost of regular eggs! One Italian restaurant, Posto Pubblico, has already begun using music eggs exclusively, with plans on doing the same at their new restaurant. Farmer Fong has plans of adding more chickens to his club-like coop to meet the demand.
