When it's hotter in Fargo, North Dakota than Tampa, Florida, you know the U.S. is suffering from a sweltering summer heat wave. Before you try freezing your underwear or embark on an Antarctic expedition, take a look at these less drastic and less expensive cool off options.
Host a Heat Wave Party
When Floridians hear a hurricane's a comin', they have hurricane parties, so why not have a heat wave party? Stock up on icy cold beverages and water based snacks like melons, pineapples, and Jello® shots!
Get Splashy
Whether it's sprinklers, fountains, water balloons, or kiddie pools, find any type of hydrating activity and do it. If you're pampered with a pool, share the liquid love and invite friends and neighbors to splash around too.
Hide Inside
If being outside is just too unbearable, pretend you're a vampire and remain in the cool, dark indoors. When you get too bored sitting at home, visit a movie theater, public library, or anywhere else with cranking A/C.
Target Hot Spots
Wrists, knees, feet, and the back of your neck are heat havens. Drench these areas with cold water whenever possible.
Sleep on the Floor
It may sound crazy and uncomfortable, but lying on tile or wood floors feels refreshing. Hot air rises so get as low as possible, camping out in the basement if you have one. Throw down some cotton sheets and have a slumber party!
Don't forget to chug lots of water to keep your body hydrated and before you know it, you'll be shoveling snow again!
