Don't Be Scared by Dating Scam Stories

Whether you're young, old, or in between, you likely know someone who has used online dating to meet a match. You've also likely heard stories about someone getting scammed by an internet suitor. Male or female, it can happen to anyone on any dating site, if you're not smart.

The most prevalent scam story involves medical bills and ill family members. Once you've started developing a real connection with someone, they reveal they have a sick son or daughter. For animal lovers, it may be puppies or kitties. While these certainly sound like unfortunate situations, they are not signs to skip to the credit union and start sending money.

Another way people get played is by sending money for travel. After lots of online communication, singles get anxious to meet in person. Some so much so that they'll lend their online love a little money for a plane ticket.

These sad stories end the same way -- the online date disappears... along with your money. That's why this monetary generosity is too risky! You never really know who is on the other end of that chat window until you meet in person. Even then, it's wise to be wary for awhile.

Internet dating works. Don't hesitate to join a site just because you've heard the common cries. For every bad internet dating story there are thousands of good ones. Be prepared, pump up your common sense skills, and don't rush into romance too rapidly.
