What's On Kiev, an English language magazine in Ukraine, recently published an article about one woman's experience with a "mail order bride" agency. Her story offers a unique perspective on the controversial topic of international dating and shatters stereotypes about the women who look for love abroad. Here are a few common myths her story dismantles.

Ukrainian Women Are Desperate and Submissive

One of the most common stereotypes about women seeking love overseas is that they are meek, submissive creatures who are desperate to find (any) foreign man. This is illustrated by a gentleman named Richard who informs the author, Sasha, he is in the process of corresponding with three other women and will choose his favorite in a few months. Richard also tells Sasha when he wants to chat with her online and reprimands her when she misses the appointment due to work. It doesn’t occur to Richard that one of the women may not want him or that the ladies aren't obliged to follow his orders.

On more than one occasion during our relationship, my wife has woken up upset at me because I was in one of her dreams doing something bad like cheating on her or acting like a jerk. Sometimes this anger lasts hours. Plus it happens about once per month. I have only had one dream like that about her. Naturally, I was curious about why this happens and if it happened to other people. And it does happen to a lot of other people.

“I knew it was over when my boyfriend of 7 years came home from work and asked me: If I was to die, could he have me stuffed and mounted? No wonder he had all of those mannequins.”

Not having much luck with the ladies? Wondering why? Scan this new website to see if you, or someone like you, has been posted with the unfortunate title of "undateable".

Authors of the new book UNDATEABLE: 311 Things Men Do That Guarantee They Won't Be Dating Or Having Sex are complementing their publication with a website that is "identifying all the things that men wear, say and do that tell a more complete dating and mating story and providing them with the tools to go from Undateable to Dateable," says co-author Ellen Rakieten.  

At first glance, Undateable.com doesn't appear to be helping men, but rather making fun of them. Although, a closer look, beyond the embarrassing pics of the "Undateables of the Day", men can find suggestions on how to become dateable. One example is to just say no to "jorts", and then they provide acceptable alternatives to the once fashionable cross between jeans and shorts. 

Ladies are encouraged to submit photos, audio, and even video (yikes!) of the best (or would it be worst?) undateable men they've encountered. Confiscate your ex-girlfriends' computers now.

It's hard to separate the legit from the scam when it comes to online dating, especially when it involves a woman thousands of miles away.

I came across this gem from some guy on Wordpress and am sharing his blog here. It's long but really fascinating if you're into finding a Russian or Ukrainian bride. He doesn't seem to have any agenda that I can see.

  I am just recently returned from a trip to Ukraine. There is a certain amount of negative information going around about the web sites that host the Ukraina and Russian Women’s profiles (like Russian Love Match/ Hot Russian Brides, Anastasia and Dream marriage).

I have been using RLM/HRB for quite a while now. I will admit that it gets a bit addictive to get so much attention from so many beautiful women.
